Winter Solstice & Yule 2020

Today is the Winter Solstice, also known as Yule. It is the darkest day of the year, or the longest night. This is due to our Sun shining for the shortest duration of time today. This day is in opposition to the Summer Solstice, the brightest day of the year. However, the good news is that after this day the Sun slowly begins its return, bringing more light each day that passes.

It is during these dark days that we are better able to shift from our external worlds and delve into the depth of our souls. It is a great time to check in with ourselves, and take stock. We can ask if the seeds we have been planting in our lives throughout this year are what we really wish to grow into existence. We can also have gratitude for all that we have been able to create and all that has been brought into our life throughout the year. This is the time of reflection.

A powerful transit that is happening on this Solstice is the great Jupiter conjunction with Saturn. This happens once every 20 years, and it is a sign of great change. It is about the ending of a cycle and the need to advance to a higher level. Jupiter is associated with political systems, finding the greater truth, and religious study. Saturn is associated with structures, laws, and order. This transit brings the energy of these two planets together in the sign of Aquarius. Aquarius is known as the rebel, the out of the box thinker, and the independent. This may be an indication that the world is about to shift into a unique or different way of being.

On a personal note, the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction may cause you to feel a need to break out of the restrictions or responsibilities that you may be feeling in your life. There may be an increase in restlessness for you. You may find that you have reached the end of your rope with different aspects of your life, forcing changes to be made. There may be more awareness around fear issues that are holding you back from living the life you truly wish for.

This time period could signify the ending of a relationship or the change of a career. Perhaps even recreating your own personal life in some way. Even though changes such as these can be challenging to go through, the end result may be very fortunate for you. There are positive outcomes to breaking through old patterns during this transit.

On the other hand, you may also find yourself wishing to expand the structures within your life. If you are feeling that your life is moving in a positive direction you may feel called to put some more energy behind what you are doing. This may be expanding your business or your projects in some way. There is a strong drive toward more freedom at this time. The blessings of the universe may bring breakthrough moments, or fated events, into your life. Keep your eyes open as you move through this transit.

As if all these energies weren’t enough, the Sun also enters the sign of Capricorn today. This is a time to pay attention to your career, your role in society, and your place in your community. The focus now is on moving into the future. What journey are you on now? Do you see yourself moving toward your goals, or do you need to make a course correction? Try to step outside yourself and really see the steps you have been taking in your life. If you have been less than dedicated to your path it may be a time to make those changes.
